Therme Group to Launch First US Wellness Resort in Dallas
Therme Group has announced that its inaugural facility in the US will be an impressive $800 million water park and wellness resort located near downtown Dallas, Texas.
According to the Dallas Morning News, Therme Group has secured an agreement to acquire 24 acres of land from real estate firm Matthews Southwest, as stated by John Alschuler, executive chairman of Therme US.
The company plans to seek planning and zoning approval from Dallas later this year, along with applications for economic incentives.
Therme’s Therme Dallas Resort will serve as the cornerstone of the 24-acre development, which will also feature a hotel.
Construction costs are estimated to reach $500 million, while an additional $300 million will be allocated for expenses such as design fees and related purchases.
As with all Therme attractions, the new Dallas location will boast thermal baths, saunas, mineral pools, waterslides, immersive art, and dining options.
Alschuler emphasised that it will be an affordable destination, stating:
“We want to save health and wellbeing from becoming a luxury product and accessible only to the wealthiest people in the United States.
“We aim to contribute to making this community a more economically equitable place.”
Therme Dallas could open as soon as 2030
While Therme Group has yet to appoint a lead architect for the Dallas project, Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates will take on the role of landscape architect.
The facility will incorporate over 1,000 palm trees and various native Texas plants.
The plans for the Therme Dallas Resort follow the company’s announcement of a new facility in Washington, DC.
This Dallas venue will mark the first Therme destination to launch in the US, coinciding with the commencement of construction in DC.
If approved, the Therme Dallas Resort could potentially open its doors as early as 2030.
“In a post-Covid world, providing civic infrastructure that promotes human health and wellbeing is one of the most important things the city can do for its residents,” remarked Alschuler.
“Therme Dallas will establish a new standard for urban spaces, offering an integrated solution that reconnects us with nature, self, and others — enhancing physical, mental, social, and collective wellbeing,” said Robert Hammond, president and chief strategy officer of Therme Group US, in a press release.
Recently, Therme Group unveiled plans for 10 wellness resorts in the US over the next decade.
