Therme Group’s Major Move with Therme Erding Acquisition

Therme Group has successfully completed the Therme Erding acquisition, securing Europe’s largest wellbeing destination and establishing itself as the world’s foremost operator of wellness infrastructure.

Situated near Munich in Germany, Therme Erding is a vast water park and wellness resort that covers an impressive 185,000 square metres, attracting approximately 1.8 million visitors each year.

Based in Vienna, Therme Group is actively developing new wellness destinations in cities like Manchester, Frankfurt, Toronto, and various locations across the US. According to a press release, the company anticipates that the addition of Therme Erding will elevate its annual visitor count to over 3.5 million across its portfolio.

“As we expand globally, we are not just growing our portfolio – we are redefining how cities can integrate spaces that prioritise health, connection, and inclusion, making urban wellbeing accessible to all,” remarked Robert Hanea, founder and CEO of Therme Group.

“By breaking away from the exclusivity of the traditional wellness sector, we aim to reimagine the sector’s potential and its benefits for society as a whole,” he added.

Jörg Wund, CEO of Therme Erding, expressed: “In Therme Group, we have found an established and proven partner who shares the innovative wellbeing legacy I built alongside my father. This acquisition not only honours that legacy but also ensures a vibrant and prosperous future for Therme Erding, its employees, and the community it serves.”

To facilitate the Therme Erding acquisition, Therme Group secured a €320 million funding package from Macquarie Capital’s Principal Finance team, in addition to its own equity.
