Queensland’s Aussie World to Build $60m Water Park

Aussie World Unveils Plans for Major Water Park Development

Queensland’s Aussie World theme park has unveiled plans to develop a $60 million water park, which would be the Sunshine Coast’s largest.

Aussie World’s owners have submitted a development application to the Sunshine Coast Council to build the water park on private land to the north of the current theme park, Business News Australia reports.

If the plans are approved, the water park would include 16 waterslides for all ages, as well as leisure and adventure pools, and many aquatic play areas. The proposals also include several food and beverage outlets, a pool bar, sun lounges and cabanas.

Sunshine Coast’s Largest Water Park

“We are continuing to find new attractions that will create an iconic, must-visit experience at the Aussie World entertainment complex, which will be sought after by tourists,” said Aussie World general manager Jenny Howell.

“As the largest sustainable and accessible water park on the Sunshine Coast, and with its close proximity to Aussie World water park, this project will be hugely popular and something that locals can be proud of.”

The project is expected to boost the local economy by up to $39m through construction. The water park is estimated to attract more than 780,000 annual visitors by 2031 and generate between $15.2m and $30m for the local tourism economy.

“There will be a two-day pass offer to significantly increase the appeal of the Sunshine Coast to overnight visitors and it will contribute a significant injection to the region’s overnight visitor spend,” Howell said.

Development Application Submitted

“The water park will continue to strengthen the Sunshine Coast’s reputation as the tourism capital of Queensland for families and young adults, adding to the already exceptional line-up of tourist attractions across the region.”

Nearby in Brisbane, a new Bluey immersive experience called Bluey’s World is due to open. This permanent space will celebrate the hit TV show, which is created, written, animated, and post-produced in the city.

Elsewhere, Sydney’s iconic Luna Park is listed for sale for the first time in two decades.
