Norwegian Aqua Cruise Ship Launched with Island Expansion Plans

Exciting Developments with the Norwegian Aqua Cruise Ship

Norwegian Cruise Line has officially christened its latest vessel, the Norwegian Aqua, in Miami, while also unveiling plans for the expansion of Great Stirrup Cay, its exclusive private island destination.

The Norwegian Aqua was inaugurated over the weekend in Miami. This newest addition to the cruise line boasts the world’s first hybrid coaster and waterslide, along with a host of innovative attractions.

Regarding the Great Stirrup Cay expansion, Norwegian Cruise Line’s private island in the Bahamas is set to introduce new experiences in the fourth quarter of this year.

These enhancements will feature an expansive pool area complete with a dedicated bar, as well as a splash zone for children equipped with water fountains and additional features.

In conjunction with the launch of a new multi-ship pier later this year, visitors arriving at Great Stirrup Cay will be greeted by a new welcome centre and tram service.

The island’s development plans also include the addition of onboard experiences such as a new Vibe Beach Club – an adults-only outdoor lounge featuring private cabanas and loungers.

Furthermore, Horizon Park will be introduced to the island; this new recreational area has recently been launched on two cruise ships, alongside a relaxation area and other Tiki-inspired experiences.

New Experiences from Norwegian Cruise Line

“Later this year, we will unveil new experiences for our guests to enjoy on this already incredible private island,” stated David Herrera, president of Norwegian Cruise Line.

“With our newest ship, Norwegian Aqua, entering the market with voyages to the Caribbean and the Bahamas, it’s the perfect time to start planning your next warm-weather getaway.”

Following its christening voyage, the Norwegian Aqua will dock at Port Canaveral in Florida for a series of seven-day Eastern Caribbean sailings through August 2025, which will include a stop at Great Stirrup Cay.

From August to October, the ship will embark on a series of voyages to Bermuda from New York City before returning to Miami for another season of seven-day Eastern Caribbean cruises until April 2026, once again calling at Great Stirrup Cay.

Guests will have the opportunity to experience attractions such as the Aqua Slidecoaster by wiegand.waterrides, a leading provider of water rides and attractions.

This innovative ride is the world’s first hybrid roller coaster and waterslide, offering two distinct ride experiences as the longest and fastest slides at sea.

Additional highlights aboard the ship include the Glow Court, a state-of-the-art digital sports complex developed by CONDUCTR, a UK-based innovation studio.
