Moment Factory Innovates with Multimedia Water Parks

Moment Factory, a multidisciplinary entertainment studio renowned for its immersive environments and over 20 years of experience in themed entertainment, has recently ventured into the indoor water park sector. Their award-winning projects include the new Aquascope water park at Futuroscope in France and the Wild WaterDome at Wilderness at the Smokies, the largest indoor water park in Tennessee.

“Water is an exceptional ally in creating immersive environments, offering limitless possibilities that we are only beginning to explore,” states Lyes Belhocine, general manager and producer of theme parks at Moment Factory. “Its unique qualities, combined with advanced technology, create an ideal setting for light and sound exploration. We are eager to see where this combination will lead us in the future.”

Imagining a Unique Water Park Attraction

In 2023, Wilderness at the Smokies commissioned Moment Factory to design a groundbreaking immersive multimedia attraction for its Wild WaterDome’s 40,000-square-foot expansion. The result, the Kaleidoscope Kavern Lazy River, is a distinctive tunnel that immerses guests in dynamic lighting, spatialised sound, and video projections as they float through a kaleidoscope of nature’s sights. This project quickly became a highlight of the new expansion, drawing in both new and returning visitors.

With a comprehensive approach, the studio manages projects from conception to integration. Their multidisciplinary team employs tools such as prototyping and VR to remain closely connected to the realities of the environment. For the Kaleidoscope Kavern, the team constructed a 1:10-scale model of the tunnel, which allowed for extensive exploration of creative possibilities.

Moment Factory provides evolving solutions that facilitate regular content updates, ensuring guests enjoy fresh experiences over time. This project exemplifies how multimedia water parks enhance adaptability, with new content capsules and soundscapes already implemented for the Wild WaterDome.

Creating an Immersive, Ever-Shifting Thematic World

Following the expansion of its offerings with Aquascope, a next-generation 7,000-square-metre indoor water park, Futuroscope enlisted Moment Factory to design an experiential and thematic space dedicated to immersion, resulting in the ever-evolving world known as Les Abysses de Lumière.

The studio crafted the multimedia scenography for this zone and developed original characters for use throughout the park. This innovative project merges state-of-the-art multimedia technologies, including video mapping, immersive lighting, spatialised sound, and interactivity.

“From our initial creative discussions with the Moment Factory teams, we recognised the incredible potential of this innovative fusion of the aquatic and the digital,” remarks Olivier Heral, creative director at Futuroscope. “With Les Abysses de Lumière, we’ve envisioned a universe of playful and dreamlike expression that offers visitors a truly unique immersive experience.”

Moment Factory prioritises collaboration with local stakeholders and partners to ensure that every project integrates seamlessly. This new space is the result of a close partnership, combining the expert skills of teams from Futuroscope and its FMD subsidiary, Groupe Crystal, along with Universal Rocks.

Growing Expertise in Themed Entertainment

Having established a robust presence in indoor water parks, Moment Factory is poised to enter the realm of thrilling attractions in spring 2025, further broadening its portfolio in themed entertainment. The studio is excited to apply its multimedia creativity to Dells Boat Tours in Wisconsin, enhancing the renowned Ghost Boat experience to new heights of fear.

Earlier this year, Moment Factory created a new night-time multimedia experience for Village Québécois d’Antan, a living museum in Quebec, Canada. Village Parrallèle invites visitors to explore the cultural site in the evening with a playful twist.
