Liseberg Reveals Redesigned Oceana Water Park After Fire Incident

Liseberg Reveals New Design for Oceana Water Park Following Fire Incident

Swedish amusement park Liseberg has introduced a fresh design for its Oceana water park after a significant fire incident occurred at the attraction in February.

The fire, which broke out on 12 February, consumed the outdoor slides and various facilities that were still under construction, according to eyewitnesses and rescue services. Tragically, one person lost their life, and 16 others sustained injuries.

Liseberg is in the process of reconstructing the water park and has completed the demolition and clean-up operations. The park anticipates that its aquatic attraction will be ready to welcome visitors in approximately two years.

In February 2025, Liseberg will commence the installation of the new glulam beams for the Oceana water park. Following this, the installation of water attractions within the pools will begin.

“Among other things, we have opted to invest in new technology for the slides, to make them more fire retardant,” stated Liseberg’s CEO, Andreas Andersen.

“We are also using this as an opportunity to choose a lighter colour for the attraction tower, ensuring it blends better with the surrounding cityscape.”

Upon its debut, Oceana water park will feature an indoor bathing area spanning nearly 6,000 square metres, alongside 4,000 square metres of outdoor bathing space.

The total indoor area of the water park will measure 13,600 square metres, boasting 14 attractions ranging from a lazy river to a wave pool. Additionally, it will include dining facilities and a retail shop.

Liseberg Rebuilding Water Park

“Rounding off 2024 with such positive news is a fantastic way to conclude the year. Oceana will be a vital and eagerly awaited addition to Gothenburg’s already diverse array of experiences, enhancing the region’s appeal,” remarked Liseberg’s board chairman, Kurt Eliasson.

Oceana water park was initially scheduled to open in summer 2024. The decision to rebuild was made after Liseberg cleared the site and conducted thorough investigations.

In other news, Liseberg is preparing to launch a new family thrill ride named ‘Kraftverket’ next year.
