When considering the dimensions of parent-child leisure, particularly in the context of water slides, several key areas emerge. These include parent-child paradises, resorts, city parks, and farms, each offering unique experiences for families.
Parent-Child Paradise
Many theme parks, including those with water slides, are naturally abundant in parent-child leisure elements. Internationally renowned parks like Disneyland and Lego Park, as well as domestic attractions such as Fonterra and Chimelong, cater primarily to younger audiences and families. Their offerings focus on storytelling, experiential activities, and less intense attractions that are physically demanding. Conversely, some parks prioritise adult-oriented, thrilling rides, such as large roller coasters.
As the domestic theme park market approaches saturation, challenges such as high investment costs, expensive maintenance, and low returns need addressing. Parent-child parks, with their lower equipment costs and emphasis on activity experiences, are poised to become a significant trend. These parks typically serve areas surrounding major cities, providing frequent joyful experiences for families during the parenting phase.
Parent-Child Resort
In the latter half of the 20th century, numerous parent-child resort brands emerged in Europe and America, including Clubmed, PVCP in France, and Apple Leisure in the United States. These resorts are designed with the needs of both parents and children in mind, offering distinctive products and services.
Currently, many domestic tourist resorts and hotels remain conceptually outdated. They often replicate urban hotels in tourist destinations, aligning with the scenic spot’s appearance through new designs but lacking in product experience and service. This presents a significant opportunity for improvement in the future.
With international parent-child holiday brands entering China and some resorts adopting foreign concepts of parent-child leisure, the holiday market is expected to become increasingly segmented, specialised, and refined.
City Park
China’s major cities boast numerous zoos, botanical gardens, country parks, and wetland parks, which currently fulfil many daily parent-child leisure functions. However, these traditional parks often lack comprehensive products and services, leaving ample room for enhancement to boost their social service roles. This need aligns with urban renewal and consumption upgrades as development progresses.
Parent-Child Farm
Farm tours offer a delightful experience for the entire family, allowing them to engage with rural life, enjoy eco-friendly farm produce, and enable children to explore nature’s wonders, fostering their love for the outdoors and cheerful disposition.
China’s rural tourism products are largely in the early stages, characterised by basic agritainment. Compared to foreign parent-child farms, there is a significant gap in quality, experience, output value, interest, knowledge, interaction, and advanced parent-child needs.
With ongoing rural revitalisation efforts, innovation in rural tourism products is underway, presenting a direct and feasible method to enhance rural output value. Professionally managed parent-child farms with specialised products and services are poised for substantial growth.
