Experience the Thrill of Volcanic Wedgeee at Wet’n’Wild Hawaii

Exciting New Attraction: The Volcanic Wedgeee at Wet’n’Wild Hawaii

With a surge of media attention, the new Volcanic Wedgeee has made a spectacular debut at Wet’n’Wild Hawaii, coinciding with the park’s 25th season. These two High-Speed AquaTubes are not only the tallest and steepest slides in the state but also the fastest, quickly becoming a favourite among visitors.

However, the Volcanic Wedgeee is more than just a flashy addition.

This attraction carries significant importance beyond its thrilling design, showcasing a commitment to delivering an exceptional experience for guests.

A Thrilling Reward for Sustainability Initiatives

The introduction of the Volcanic Wedgeee signifies more than merely adding a new ride; it is a direct outcome of strategic investments in sustainability. This impressive $5+ million attraction was largely funded by operational savings from Wet’n’Wild’s pioneering initiative to become Hawaii’s first 100% solar-powered, year-round attraction.

The park enhanced its existing 1.3 MW solar carport system by increasing solar PV capacity and incorporating a Tesla Megapack battery energy storage system, which has significantly reduced its carbon footprint and utility expenses. Consequently, annual operating costs are expected to decrease by over $300,000.

Moreover, Wet’n’Wild collaborated with Hawai‘i Energy to install 20 variable frequency drives (VFDs) on the motors powering its water attractions. This single upgrade has resulted in an impressive 900,000 kWh in annual energy savings and reduced energy costs by $200,000 in just the first year.

Rather than simply pocketing these savings, the park has reinvested them into enhancing guest experiences, with the Volcanic Wedgeee serving as the exhilarating reward. This project exemplifies how sustainability can foster innovation and support future entertainment ventures.

A Uniquely Hawaiian Ride Experience

Honouring Hawaii’s unique geography, the Volcanic Wedgeee comprises two WhiteWater High-Speed AquaTubes body slides, engineered to be up to 50% faster than traditional models while ensuring a smooth, rider-friendly experience.

Before embarking on the park’s latest adventure, guests ascend 178 steps to the top of the tower, where they can enjoy breathtaking views of Ko Olina and the ‘Ewa Plain as they await their turn for either the blue or yellow slide. With hearts racing, they peer into the darkness before launching from nearly 70 feet in the air, hurtling through an enclosed flume at speeds reaching 26 mph.

The darkness doesn’t last long. Riders are soon greeted by bursts of light—a simulated magma chamber featuring unique AquaLucent effects: vibrant stripes, rings, and the world’s first SHAKA tunnel!

This combination of speed, height, and immersive visuals creates a cinematic thrill ride that stands out in the region.

Strategically Filling a Gap in the Ride Mix

Until now, most of Wet’n’Wild Hawaii’s high-thrill attractions were limited to guests 48 inches and taller. The Volcanic Wedgeee is designed for guests 42 inches and above, significantly expanding access for younger thrill-seekers and families with older children. This addition addresses a long-standing gap in the park’s ride offerings, providing high excitement for a broader audience.

Additionally, it marks the first major thrill ride introduced since 2015, helping to rejuvenate repeat visits, encourage season pass renewals, and generate renewed media interest in the park.

The Volcanic Wedgeee aligns seamlessly with Wet’n’Wild Hawaii’s core business objectives:

  • Attract attendance through headline-making, state-leading attractions
  • Differentiating from regional competitors with immersive, custom-designed experiences
  • Expanding the target demographic, particularly families with children aged 7–12 who are too large for kiddie rides but often excluded from larger thrill slides
  • Stimulating revenue growth through increased in-park spending, photos, and merchandise associated with the new ride

This also signifies a strategic shift towards innovation and storytelling, paving the way for future themed expansions and tech-integrated experiences.

The Volcanic Wedgeee is not just an exhilarating ride; it serves as an industry-leading example of what a park can achieve through dedicated sustainability efforts, selecting attractions that meet guest demographics, and honouring the heritage of the land.

And the guests are thrilled.

“We’ve received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from guests. It’s a nostalgic ride reimagined for many adults who remember the park in its original form 26 years ago as ‘Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park.’ The Volcanic Wedgeee is a modernised thrill ride they can now enjoy with their children. Furthermore, this ride perfectly complements the park’s adrenaline-seeking offerings—ideal timing for a grand opening just as school lets out for summer break!”
