Disney Destiny Cruise Ship Makes Its Debut in Water

Disney Destiny: A New Era for Disney Cruise Line

The Disney Destiny, the latest addition to Disney Cruise Line’s fleet, has made its debut in the waters at the Meyer Werft Shipyard located in Papenburg, Germany. This significant milestone marks the ship’s first encounter with water.

The initial phase, referred to as “float up”, involved filling the building dock with water sourced from the Ems river, allowing the ship to rise from the chamber floor.

According to a Disney blog post, the vessel was subsequently repositioned within the hall, where the team will commence testing various onboard systems, including the main engines.

In the coming months, the shipyard crew will continue to enhance the interior spaces of the Disney Destiny, which is designed around the theme of Disney’s beloved heroes and villains.

This cruise ship will feature new bars inspired by Cruella de Vil, the Haunted Mansion, and Pirates of the Caribbean, alongside a new dining experience themed around The Lion King, and a Broadway-style show based on Hercules.

Additional food and beverage venues on the cruise ship will include Café Megara and Café Merida, with the former drawing inspiration from Hercules and the latter from Brave.

Immersive Experiences on the Disney Cruise Ship

Among the various attractions on the Disney Destiny is a sweet shop named Edna Á La Mode Sweets, as well as a new lounge inspired by Doctor Strange.

Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager at Disney Cruise Line, remarked last year: “The Disney Destiny will celebrate our most legendary Disney stories and characters, bringing them to life in new and exciting ways exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests.”

“As we continue to expand our fleet, the Disney Destiny will further strengthen our position as a leader in family cruising, offering even more opportunities for families to experience Disney magic and world-class service at sea.”

The Disney Destiny is part of a major expansion of the Disney Cruise Line fleet, which is set to grow to a total of 13 ships.

The Disney Destiny is scheduled to embark on its maiden voyage from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in November 2025.
